Have you ever wished you could be in two places at once?
Look at the picture of this person here:
What do you think?
Which State are they in? Iowa or Nebraska? Or both, maybe? Are they really in two places at once? Or are they in neither place completely? Why or why not?
In our last post, we looked at God’s almighty power – His omnipotence. Another attribute of God, is that He is ‘Omnipresent’.
Remember, ‘Omni’ means ‘All’ – so the word ‘Omni-present’ literally means ‘all present’.
God is EVERYWHERE! His presence is not limited to one place at one time. God is outside of space and time. He’s uncontainable!
“Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?” declares the Lord? “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the Lord – Jeremiah 23:24
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good – Proverbs 15:3
Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold You are there! If I take the wings of the dawn, if I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, even there Your hand will lead me, and Your right hand will lay hold of me – Psalm 139:7-10
The Psalmist here talks about heaven, and even hell! (Sheol). He mentions taking flight and making your home on the remotest island! Even there, God would still be with you. And He’s not just watching from afar like some kind of CCTV camera…look at the next part:
“Even there Your hand will lead me and Your right hand will lay hold of me.”
God is involved! His hand is upon us. This signifies closeness and warmth and Fatherly affection. He longs to lead and guide us – and if necessary, whenever we wander too far, to lay hold of us and bring us back to His side – just like a Father would!
No matter what situation we find ourselves in, God is with us. In fact, one of the Names of Jesus is ‘Immanuel’ – which means just that – GOD WITH US!
Look at these verses:
God is our refuge and strength, a VERY PRESENT help in times of trouble – Psalm 46:1
A refuge is a place of safety- a strong shelter from the storm.
Here’s another similar verse:
He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge – Psalm 91:4
God is Spirit – To help us understand what He is like, sometimes the bible uses Metaphoric imagery to describe Him. The verse above likens God’s loving care to a Mother Swan protecting her Cygnets under her wings. It’s a beautiful image!
- If you are about to start a new school – remember, God will be with you!
- When you feel all alone in a crowd of people – God’s eye is upon you!
- If you are moving house – or even country – God will still be with you!
- When you are asleep, God is watching over you!
- If you sin and miss the mark, God is there to forgive and restore you.
- If you are going through a stormy situation, God is Your refuge, Your shelter – Run to Him!
No matter where you go, or what you go through, God is not just present, He’s VERY PRESENT! He’s EVERYWHERE!
